Sustainability
Cardboard gives us a useful starting point: a renewable, tactile material that can be shaped with less shipping weight and a clear end-of-life story.
Good for cats. Better for the bin.
A cat scratcher is, by nature, a disposable product — so the most honest sustainability win is choosing a material that returns to the cycle cleanly. Ours does. Corrugated kraft cardboard, pet-safe inks, and a supply chain we're steadily cleaning up, one carton at a time.
Recyclable material
Kraft corrugated board is widely recyclable in standard paper streams — when a scratcher is finally done, it doesn't have to become landfill.
Responsible sourcing
We work with board suppliers who can document their fiber sourcing, so your eco claims rest on something real.
Pet-safe inks
Water-based, low-migration inks keep our scratchers safer for cats and cleaner to recycle after use.
Sustainability by Design, Not Afterthought
We start every structural brief by asking whether a scratcher or tower can use less material without sacrificing scratch durability, and whether every component can be recycled together in one stream. Skipping plastic clips and film lamination at the design stage does more for sustainability than any offset program after the fact.
Scrap corrugated from our die-cutting lines is baled and sent back into the recycling supply chain rather than landfilled.
From shelf to recycling bin.
The full lifecycle of a Zhizao scratcher is designed to close the loop — renewable fiber in, recyclable product out.
